More good news...
Howdy,
This past Tuesday was a holiday here in Chile. I still am not really sure why, and not many Chileans we asked knew why either. At any rate, holiday here means "asado" which means BBQ. So, Tuesday we got together with about 9 or 10 other couples involved in Marriage Encounter and had a BBQ at the church building. Chileans, being laid back and all, do a BBQ a little different. The following schedule is the norm for a Chilean asado:
12:30 - allegedly everyone meets at the building
1:30 - 2:00 everyone actually shows up at the building (I include myself in this category)
1:30 - the first attempts at starting a fire are made (neither Kingsford nor Matchlight exist here)
3:30 - 4:30 eating and eating followed by dessert and possibly more eating
5:30 - we say goodbye to everyone and waddle back home
The great thing about this particular asado was that it included a baptism! Toyita Valenzuela, a member of the support group for marriage encounter, had been thinking for some time about her baptism and chose this past Tuesday. She was baptized by her husband, Nicolas, and followed her sons Nicolas and Felipe who were baptized at the beginning of July. They are the first Chilean family to have all put on the Lord in baptism, which is an exciting milestone for the church here! Thank you for your continued prayers for us and the work in Santiago. God Bless!
