Christmas in July

Last Friday, July 21st, we celebrated Christmas in July--American style! We wanted to share typical Christmas food with our English Class students. For us North Americans, Christmas is associated with cold weather, snowmen, hot apple cider, turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes... Since the weather has been in the mid-40s lately, we had the perfect environment to create the Christmas spirit! Jenni, Lindsey, and I (Amanda) cooked all afternoon on Friday--homemade stuffing from scratch! (They don't have StoveTop Stuffing here!) We also made cookies, peanut butter fudge, green beans, and mashed potatoes. We decorated the auditorium into a Christmas wonderland with a Christmas tree with presents, a manger scene, candles and stockings. The Chileans loved it!! They were excited to try the stuffing, which was a new food for them. After dinner we had a gift exchange game in which we all had a chance open a gift. Two cans of Dr. Pepper were by far the most popular!! Enjoy the pictures below! Thanks for checking up with us!! God Bless!!

The food table...turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, and cranberry sauce

We had a full house--about 30 people!!

Just before the gift exchange began...the gifts ranged from Dr. Pepper, chocolate, candles, a stuffed animal, a soccer ball piggy bank, a bar of soap, and more!

Great blog..and what a wonderful way to share a slice of American culture. I thought it was funny that Dr. Pepper was the prize gift...was that one of the things your parents brought when they came, or can you get it in SA?

Howdy from Iowa. I found your blog and I am not sure how. Andy and I are in Iowa and he is working with John Deere. We will keep you in our prayers as you continue your work there.
